movement heals
Chronic PAIN and/or injury DOES NOT HAVE TO BE your new normal.
If your physical abilities have ever been compromised, then you’ve experienced firsthand the fear, struggle, and maybe even feelings of betrayal that can accompany a loss of joyous and pain free movement. Physical pain is an invitation for empowerment. If you are dealing with chronic, nagging pain from lifestyle factors like a desk job or long commute, or have limited range of motion or functionality after an injury or surgery, the Pilates method is a powerful tool in significantly reducing or eliminating pain.
It’s disheartening how many people have heard and accepted from doctors, family, or friends that “everybody will deal with back pain at some point,” or “your body will break down after 40” or “squats are bad for your knees,” as though this is a totally normal and inevitable outcome of life. Pain and/or injury are opportunities to take radical responsibility for your health by letting go of movement habits that are no longer serving you. By exploring how to move in new ways, the resiliency and adaptability of the neuromuscular system can readjust how you experience the the world. You deserve to feel empowered in your body’s physical capabilities!
“Change happens through movement, and movement heals.”
I came to Pilates with chronic low back pain that wasn't improving despite 5 weeks of 2x/weekly chiropractic adjustments. It wasn't until I started 1:1 private sessions with Alissa that I started to feel better. I was nervous to start, but now I wish I had come in sooner! Alissa is so knowledgeable about human form and musculature, I was able to relax and trust her instruction. We worked around my injury/pain and strengthened underused muscles to take the load off of overused areas for a more balanced and happy body. Alissa has an eagle eye for poor form and will not let you do any movements incorrectly, which I really appreciated as someone who isn't super coordinated or athletic. In addition, she is very patient and kind, I always felt comfortable. In just 2 short months, I no longer have chronic back pain. Yes, it gets irritated with certain movements and if I'm sedentary too long, but the daily, constant, nagging pain that I thought would never go away, is gone! Every time I leave a Pilates session, I walk out a little taller and try to take the lessons I learned there into my day. Thank you!
