Pilates for Moms
Pilates is one of the safest and most-recommended fitness programs out there for moms-to-be and new moms.
Private instruction is highly recommended for moms-to-be and new moms because of the significantly different needs the body has due to pregnancy and childbirth. There's more to it than just Kegels! Pre-natal Pilates is a safe and gentle way to increase deep abdominal strength to support the weight of the baby, relieve lower back and hip discomfort, improve posture to ease the spinal strain, and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles used for labor and delivery.
After the birth, post-natal Pilates rehabilitates the pelvic and abdominal regions, increases upper body strength for carrying and lifting the growing baby, and increases overall physical and mental energy. (It doesn't matter if your baby is 6 weeks old or grown-up and moved out - once you've had a baby, you're always considered post-natal!)
We always recommend preparing your body before becoming pregnant for the demands it will undergo if possible - but it's never too late to start your pre-natal fitness program! And it's never too late to rehabilitate after your child was delivered - we've worked with moms who still have complications from C-sections, diastasis recti, prolapse, or even an umbilical hernia years later. We are highly experienced in helping your body be prepared, strong, and functional during these special transition times.
You must have doctor approval to start a pre-natal fitness program, as well as returning to exercise afterwards.
“Every moment of our life can be the beginning of great things.”
I started Pilates as a newbie back in 2010 and was so happy to have found the method! Pilates always seemed to intimidate me, as though only those “in the know” could do it. Alissa was so patient and really wanted to know how my body moved, if I had any trouble spots to work on, and overall wanting me to get stronger through Pilates. Alissa is the reason I have stuck with it for as long as I have, and her attention to what worked for me was immensely helpful during my prenatal time to keep my core strong, and postnatal workouts to get me feeling like myself again. Highly recommend her to anyone who wants to take an extra step in feeling as fit and strong as you can.
